Boy Bands of 1990’s

A lot of modern style boy bands were introduced during the mid to the late 90’s. The music scene became alive with the various boy bands that specialized in genres like contemporary and pop. Music charts registered high ratings and people went crazy hearing the popular singles from the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and 98 degrees. Girls as well as boys could be seen and heard arguing about which band was better than all and which was more famous. Coffee shops and bars and intriguing discussions about which boy band played better music and which band had the best looking members. Unarguably, the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC definitely gained more popularity than 98 degrees did, but the later held their own grounds in the war of the boy bands. However, the members of the bands started to disperse as they grew up. There were many among these groups who also tried their hand at solo careers. Some became successful and can still be heard, while there were others who are just memories of those old times. This article here focuses on some of the boy bands that were formed or played in the 1990’s.

First, let us start with NSYNC. The band, formed in 1995 comprised of five members. They were Joey Fatone, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick. As mentioned earlier, the group was formed 1995 and emerged from Florida. Almost sixty million albums of the band were sold all around the globe. Now, sixty million is a huge figure and the band became famous. However, they could not be as famous as the Backstreet Boys. The members of NSYNC recorded their numbers under two labels. These were Jive Records and RCA. This boy band worked together for seven years, from 1995 to 2002. Together as a group, Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez were the lead singers, but the whole group sang and harmonized together. All the five were superb pop dancers and the tickets to their concerts sold out as soon as the windows opened for booking. During 1998, the band took to performing all over the world. This went on for four years and the tour finally ended in 2002. NSYNC released four albums, namely Home for Christmas, NSYNC, Celebrity and No Strings Attached. All four were huge hits.

Let us now come to the Backstreet Boys. It is very unlikely that you will come across someone who has not heard about this boy band or a song sung by them. The Backstreet Boys were able to sell the maximum number of albums globally, and the figure goes up to somewhere around 132 million. This band too, was formed in Florida.

Incidentally, this band and NSYNC were founded by the same person, which is Lou Pearlman. This band had four members in their group. They were Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Nick Carter. The band recorded their number under Jive Records, too. Backstreet Boys toured the world for a period of ten years and their albums always topped the BillBoard music charts. Some of the famous albums released by this boy band were Unbreakable, This Is U, Never Gone, Black and Blue and Backstreet Boys.
